DEATHS :

-Valentino "Big Val" Puccio, 45, former mid-90s ECW wrestler, died yesterday, Friday January 7th(Credit : pwinsider).

-Gordon Scozzari, 40, AWF pro wrestling promoter who did shows in New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico & England, died on Wednesday January 5th. He had been on dialysis for two missing kidneys(Credit : wrestling observer).

RESULTS :

-DDT presented "Never Mind 2010" at Tokyo, Japan's Korakuen Hall Sunday December 26th. IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions The Golden Lovers(Kenny Omega & Kota Ibushi) defeated Jado & Gedo in 21:24 when Omega pinned Gedo after a Croyt's Wrath(Credit : Puroresu Fan).

-DREAM presented Dynamite!!  2010 on New Year's Eve, this past Friday December 31st at Japan's Saitama Super Arena. Bob Sapp, originally set to face former sumo wrestler Shinichi Suzukawa in a "IGF special rules" fight, pulled out of the event prior to going on the air, with the announcers saying he "lost the will to fight" as he tried re-negotiating his contract. In his debut in the weight class, Kazushi Sakuraba(26-15-1, 2 NCs)'s fight with Welterweight Champion Marius Zaromskis(14-5) was stopped 2:16 in to round 1 when his busted-open cauliflower ear was partially torn away from his head. Zaromskis retained by TKO. In a last-minute bout to determine the first Interim Heavyweight Champion, Alistair Overeem(34-11) destroyed Todd Duffee(6-2) via knockout(punches) in 14 seconds of round 1. In a non-title 'mixed rules' match(1st round kickboxing, 2nd round MMA), Yuichiro Nagashima(4-2) annihilated Lightweight Champion Shinya Aoki(26-5, 1 NC) with knee lift to score the knockout 4 seconds in to the 2nd round. Light Heavyweight Champion Gegard Mousasi scored a unanimous decision over K-1 Heavyweight Champion Kyotaro Fujimoto in a K-1 rules kickboxing bout, Sergei Kharitonov(17-4) got the TKO victory via punches on Tatsuya Mizuno(8-7) 1:25 in to the 1st round of their heavyweight fight, featherweight K-1 kickboxer Kazuhisa Watanabe(0-1) lost his MMA debut to Hideo Tokoro(27-23-1) by submission via armbar 2:02 in round 3, and in the main event, Hiroyuki Takaya(15-8-1) took the Featherweight title from Champion Bibiano Fernades(8-3) via unanimous decision. FEG President Sadaharu Tanikawa said after the event that the group will go on a 3-month hiatus to reorganize, which includes negotiations with Chinese investment bank Puji Capital, Shanghai Media Group and "multiple companies" in the United States. He also wishes for Gegard Mousasi to fight more in K-1. They will be holding a bantamweight tournament this year as well(Credit : MMAJunkie, Sherdog).

-UFC 125: Resolution took place a  week ago, Saturday January 1st at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV. In the main event, Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar(13-1-1)'s defense against Gray Maynard(10-0-1, 1 NC) ended in a draw; one judge scoring in favor of Edgar, the other for Maynard, and the last coming in at 47-47. Rather than the originally planned unification fight the winner would have with WEC Lightweight Champion Anthony Pettis(13-1), an immediate rematch between Edgar & Maynard will take place a date to be determined, with the winner facing Pettis. Elsewhere on the card, middleweight Chris Leben(25-7) fought sick with the flu to lose to Brian Stann(10-3) via TKO(punches) 3:37 in to round 1. Elsewhere, Welterweight Don Hyun Kim(14-0) defeated Nate Diaz(13-6) via unanimous decision, and lightweight Clay Guida(28-11) submitted Takanori Gomi(32-7, 1 NC) to a guillotine choke 4:27 in to round 2. Following their losses on the card, UFC this week released middleweight Phil Baroni(13-13, KO'd by Brad Tavares' punches 4:20 in to round 1), lightweights Marcus Davis(17-8, KO'd by a Jeremy Stephens punch in 2:33 of round 3) & Antonio McKee(25-4-2, lost to Jacob Wolkmann via split decision), and light heavyweight Brandon Vera(11-6, who lost a unanimous decision to Thiago Silva, suffering a broken nose in the process). UFC signed lightweight Danny Castillo(10-3) to a multi-fight deal, however, while Silva is negotiating a bout with Quinton "Rampage" Jackson at UFC 130 on Saturday May 28th again at Las Vegas, NV's MGM Grand Garden Arena, an event that could also see heavyweight fights between Frank Mir(14-5) and Roy Nelson(15-5, having cleared up a contract dispute with Roy Jones Jr.'s Square Ring Promotions), along with Stefan Struve(21-4) and undefeated Travis Browne, 10-0-1(Credit : MMAJunkie).

-Minoru Tanaka defeated Kaz Hayashi at Tokyo, Japan's Korauken Hall for the AJPW Junior Heavyweight title on Sunday January 2nd.

-This past Monday January 3rd on WWE Monday Night RAW from the University Of Phoenix Stadium in Arizona, WWE Champion The Miz defeated John Morrison in the opening falls count anywhere match by pinfall following a Skull Crushing Finale on the floor 22:00. -Last Tuesday(January 4th) on WWE NXT from the Tucson Convention Center in Arizona, Dolph Ziggler 'traded' his rookie Jacob Novak for Byron Saxton. Novak was eliminated later in the show as the first gone from this season.

-NJPW's 'Wrestle Kingdom V' PPV took place at Japan's Tokyo Dome this past Tuesday, January 4th. IWGP Tag Team Champions Bad Intentions(Giant Bernard & Karl Anderson) defeated Beer Money, Inc. and Seigi Gun(Manabu Nakanishi & Strong Man) by pinfall 8:36 in to a three way dance when Anderson pinned Robert Roode following a Gun Stun. Elsewhere, Rob Van Dam pinned Toru Yano by pinfall in 11:28 after a Five Star Frog Splash, Prince Devitt defended the IWGP Junior Heavyweight title against Kota Ibushi, pinning Ibushi in 16:22 following a second rope Bloody Sunday, and TNA World Champion Jeff Hardy defeated Tetsuya Naito by pinfall after a Swanton Bomb in 11:04 of their title match. In the main event, Hiroshi Tanahashi became a 5-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion when he defeated Satoshi Kojima 21:57 in to their match by pinfall following a High Fly Flow(Credit : Puroresu Fan).

-Last night(Friday January 7th) on WWE Friday Night Smackdown from the Tucson Convention Center in Arizona, Kofi Kingston defeated Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler for title via pinfall from a flying crossbody 6:00 in to their match to become a 3-time Champion. -Gypsy Joe, 77, claims that his match last night in Tullahoma, TN for SWF against Yukon Jack was his retirement match(Credit : Examiner.com Nashville, WGN).

-Shine Fights COO Jason Chambers & matchmaker Santino DeFranco resigned from company Friday December 31st(Credit : MMAWeekly).

-Chikara Pro Wrestling/Five Star Promotions put out a press release claiming to have been purchased by an alleged Reseda, CA company named Worldwide Media Development Corporation(WMDC) as part of a new storyline.

-Paul Orndorff revealed this week that he has throat cancer.

-Former WCW World Heavyweight Champion David Arquette checked in to alcohol rehab Monday January 3rd(Credit : TMZ).

-UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez(9-0) is set to have surgery for a partially torn rotator cuff suffered in his October title fight with Brock Lesnar(5-2) and will be out at least 6 months(Credit : MMAWeekly).

-Miss Tessmacher(Brooke Adams) had corrective surgery on her jaw this past Wednesday January 5th, which was broken in two places on Christmas(Credit : wrestling epicenter).

LEGAL :

-Following pleading guilty to money laundering charges(taking part in illegally netting more than $69,000 in loan proceeds through a falsified repair order) on Monday January 3rd, UFC middleweight Chael Sonnen(25-11-1) was suspended by UFC. As part of a plea deal, he was given a $10,000 fine, gave up his realtor's license and will be sentenced March 29th, while the U.S. District Attorney's office wants him on 2-year probation as well. Sonnen was targeted to face Yoshihiro Akiyama(13-3) at UFC 128, Saturday March 19th in Newark, NJ's Prudential Center, but will now be replaced by Nate Marquardt(30-10-2).

-Massachusetts indy wrestler The Skunk(Chris Antal) was arrested on Thursday December 30th for assault after punching a 59-year-old woman who interjected in a fight between himself and another man(Credit : WGN).

-Jeff Hardy's attorney, James Van Camp, said he will enter a negotiated plea that will include a sentencing arrangement for Mr. Hardy's drug charges on January 20th, pleading guilty to one or more of the charges according to Moore County District Attorney Maureen Krueger. The plea will have to be approved by the Moore County, NC court(Credit : The Pilot).

-Nick Gage turned himself in to the Collingswood Police Department around noon on Friday December 31st for charges of a Collingswood, New Jersey PNC Bank robbery on Wednesday December 22nd.  He is currently incarcerated(Credit : wrestling inc.).

-An 18-year-old man filed a suit against WWE, Triple H & Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson on Monday January 3rd for an alleged injury that occurred during their Iron Man match for the WWF Championship at WWF Judgment Day 2000, Sunday May 21st, 2000 at Louisville, KY's Freedom Hall. During the main event title match refereed by Shawn Michaels, Champion The Rock & HHH brawled over the barricade in to the crowd at the ringside area, where the commotion caused a chain reaction ending in a woman falling on the-then-7-year-old, causing knee & leg injuries. The lawsuit accuses the-then-WWF of failing to properly prepare adequate security and the wrestlers involved of "reckless, willful & wanton conduct" that led to the plaintiff, Ronnie Basham III, being injured and recently having knee surgery(Credit : The Courier Journal).

-Alex Riley's arraignment for his November DUI arrest(and subsequent refusal of a breathalizer test) is January 13th in a Tampa, FL court(Credit : WGN).

-Naughty Bodies, an adult entertainment company/exotic dancer service owned by wrestler Sean Casey, had their Clermont County & Jackson Street, Convington, OH offices searched by IRS agents & the Cincinnati Vice Squad this week. Casey's Union Township subdivision home was also raided, officially for "zoning" violations but likely for prostitution charges(Credit : Local 12, WKRC Cincinnati).

-WWE is currently 'talking to' NBC Universal & partners(including Verizon as distributors) about the WWE Network, hoping for a 2012 launch(Credit : NYTimes).

-Lucha Las Vegas puts on their first show this Tuesday, January 11th at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino's Crown Nightclub in Las Vegas, NV featuring SiNN Bohdi(Kizarney), Stacy(The Kat), LA Park, Blue Demon Jr, Hijo De Rey Misterio, World Mini's Champion Octagoncito, Lizzy Valentine & Shelly Martinez as a referee.

-"NJPW Presents CMLL Fantastica Mania 2011" takes place the weekend of January 22 & 23rd at Tokyo, Japan's Korakuen Hall for Samurai! TV. On the first night, CMLL World Welterweight Champion Mascara Dorada defends against Ryusuke Taguchi, IWGP Tag Team Champions Bad Intentions face Atlantis & OKUMURA, and CMLL World Middleweight Champion Jushin "Thunder" Liger defends against La Sombra. The next day, the CMLL World 6-Man Tag Team Titles are on the line, as Champions Mascara Dorada, La Sombra & La Mascara face Tetsuya Naito, OKUMURA & Yujiro Takahashi, Tiger Mask (IV) takes on Tomohiro Ishii in a mask vs. hair match, and IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Champions The Golden Lovers defend against IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion Prince Devitt & Ryusuke Taguchi(Credit : Puroresu Fan).

-Tiffany was pulled from her Saturday February 5th Pro Wrestling Revolution match in San Francisco, CA against Cheerleader Melissa for making post-signed-agreement demands. She will, however, still be appearing with Maria Kanellis & Jillian Hall as part of their DivaMania 2011 tour of night club appearances. Maria taped a guest appearance on the 'Night Tales' show, is set to star in the movie 'Manos: The Search For Valley Lodge' along with Gene Snitzky to be released in 2013 and is working on two new songs(Credit : Miami Herald, Diva Dirt).

-Strikeforce & M-1 Global in association with Showtime have signed heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko(32-2-1) to a new, multi-fight agreement, the first fight of which, Vs. Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva(15-2), will take place Saturday February 12th at East Rutherford, NJ's IZOD Center as a quarterfinal fight in a World Grand Prix Heavyweight tournament that will continue throughout the year. Andrei Arlovski(15-8) faces Sergei Kharitonov, another quarterfinal fight, also takes place that night. The other quarterfinal fights thereafter feature Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem Vs. Fabirico Werdum(14-4-1) on Saturday April 9th, and a Josh Barnett(26-5) Vs. Brett Rogers(11-2) fight likely for Saturday March 5th in Columbus, OH.

-UFC On Versus 3 : Sanchez Vs. Kampann is official for the KFC YUM! Center in Louisville, KY on Saturday March 3rd, UFC's Kentucky debut. Welterweights Diego Sanchez(22-4) Vs. Martin Kampmann(17-4) & Mark Monuz(9-2) Vs. C.B. Dollaway(11-2) are featured bouts(Credit : MMAJunkie).  

-WWE is in negotiations with Fathom Events to show WrestleMania 27 at theaters live in 3D on Sunday April 3rd, according to the Chicago Independent Press.

-WWE's new Tough Enough series debuts on the USA Network Monday April 4th after RAW with 12 men & women trying to win a 1-year contract after 10 episodes, a collaboration of WWE & Shed Media US. After the premiere, TE will then move to before RAW starting April 11th for the remainder of the season, with eliminations every week. Many current independent wrestlers are currently being scouted for the show.

-UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre(21-2) Vs. Jake Shields(26-4-1) will headline UFC 129, the promotion's Toronto Debut, Saturday April 30th at the Rogers Centre. Movie schedule permitting, a light heavyweight bout between Randy Couture(19-10) Vs. Lyoto Machida(16-2) is being negotiated for what looks to be one of Couture's final fight, if not the.

-New Japan's first American shows, "Invasion : Attack On The East Coast" take place May 13-15 at Rahway, NJ's Recreation Center, New York City, NY's Basketball City & Philadelphia, PA's Asylum Arena and will feature a tournament with JAPW wrestlers represented as well to crown the first IWGP Intercontinental Champion.

-On Saturday January 8th, Mesias defeated Carlito for the WWC Universal Heavyweight Championship by pinfall following a Messiah Splash(and aided by interference from Shane Sewell) at 'Euphoria 2011' from Cancha Pepin Cestero Jose Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Also, MVP defeated Orlando Colon by pinfall following a PlayMaker(Credit : Super Luchas).

 

-The first wrestling pay per view of 2011, TNA Genesis 2011, took place this past Sunday January 9th from the iMPACT! Zone in Orlando, FL. Kazarian defeated X Champion Jay Lethal by pinfall following a tombstone piledriver 12:00 in to their match to reclaim the title, making him a 4-time Champion. Tag Team Champions The Motor City Machine Guns lost their belts to Beer Money, Inc. when Robert Rude used a rollup(holding the tights) on Chris Sabin in 18:00 to reclaim their belts, making them 4-time Champions. TV Champion AJ Styles tore his hip labrum & flexor running to help his son recently and could be out 4-6 weeks if he needs surgery, but will miss the upcoming UK tour regardless. As such, Abyss replaced Styles in Styles' title defense against Douglas Williams, Abyss winning by pinfall in 11:00 following a Black Hole Slam to become the new Champion. Matt Hardy debuted in TNA as the Immortals' mystery opponent for Rob Van Dam, beating RVD with a pinfall(and foot on the ropes) following a Twist Of Hate in 11:00. And in the main event, Ken Anderson won his first World title by defeating World Champion Jeff Hardy by pinfall following a Mic Check in 9:00.


-This past Monday January 10th at Nashville, TN's Bridgestone Arena, Shawn Michaels returned as he was introduced as the first inductee of WWE's Hall Of Fame 2011 class. Before getting a word in, Alberto Del Rio interrupted to cut a promo, only to be superkicked by HBK.


-On Smackdown airing tomorrow but taped Tuesday night January 11th in Birmingham, AL's BJCC Arena, Justin Gabirel, Heath Slater & Ezekiel Jackson beat down The Big Show at the end of Show's match with Wade Barrett, aligning themselves with Barrett(Credit : wrestling observer).

-Karen Angle returns on iMPACT! this Thursday. Stevie Richards, however, has quit TNA, while Jesse Neal has signed a three-year contract  and Scott Steiner returned to TNA as part of Amazing Red & Crimson(Little Red)'s "they" at the iMAPCT! taping last night Wednesday January 12th in Orlando, FL at the iMPACT! Zone for airing on Thursday January 27th. TNA is also in negotiations with The Jersey Shore's Angelina Piyarnick about wrestling Cookie in a match(Credit : pwinsider, TMZ). 


-Shane Helms has signed with Lucha Libre USA.


-Titan Fighting Championship has signed Phil Baroni(13-13) to a multi-fight deal, with his first to be March 25th in Kansas City, KS against a to-be-named opponent(Credit : MMAJunkie).


-HDNet has decided not to renew their TV deal with Ring Of Honor. Their current deal expires in April, though they are still considering future live specials with ROH.


-Joey Ryan has replaced recently Adam Pearce as NWA's booker in Hollywood, CA.

-Bellator FC has signed Joe Riggs(34-12), though it is not known whether he'll be fighting at welterweight or middleweight(Credit : 411mania).


LEGAL :


-Ernest Mack Shell, promoter of East Coast Wrestling Promotions' "Dare To Compare" show in Burshfork, WV's National Guard Armory this past Saturday January 8th, was arrested late Saturday night on 10 counts of 'obtaining services on false pretenses' for failing to pay any staff or wrestlers of the show that night. His bail set for $50,000 at the Bluefield City Jail, he faces 19 more counts in Kentucky(Credit : Bluefield Daily Telegrapgh).


-Former WWE RAW GM Mike Adamle was arrested at 1am on Monday January 10th for DUI, disobeying a traffic control device & failing to inform the Security State's office of an address change. He was taken to a hospital for a drug screen and is due in court February 14th(Credit : Chicago Sun-Times).


BUSINESS :


-WWE has signed a new 3-year TV deal with Sky Deutschland to air in Germany, Austria & Switzerland for pay per views, RAW, Afterburn & Superstars.


UPCOMING :


-UFC's Fight For The Troops 2 show on Saturday January 22nd will feature a featherweight bout between Mark Hominick(19-8) and George Roop(11-6-1). Should Hominick get passed Roop, he'll be in line for a featherweight title shot against Champion Jose Aldo(18-1) at UFC 129, Saturday April 30th at Montreal, Quebec, Canada's Rogers Centre(Credit : MMAJunkie).


-Lightweight MMA veteran Jen Pulver(22-14-1) headlines XFO 38 on Saturday January 22nd at Woodstock, IL's Harley Davidson against Mike Lindquist(6-19). -Taylor Wilde replaces Tiffany against Cheerleader Melissa on Pro Wrestling Revolution's Saturday February 5th event at the John A. O'Connell High School in San Francisco, CA. Wilde will be retiring afterwards(Credit : pwinsider).


-TNA tapes iMPACT! outside of the iMPACT! Zone in Orlando, FL for the first time, taping in Fayetteville, NC's Crown Center on February 24th.

-Strikeforce: Diaz Vs. Cyborg took place this past Saturday, January 29th at San Jose, CA's HP Pavilion. Heavyweight Herschel Walker(2-0) continued his undefeated streak with a 1st round TKO(strikes) win over Scott Carson(4-2). Middleweight Champion Ronaldo Souza(14-2, 1 NC) defended his belt against Robbie Lawlor(18-7, 1 NC) with a 3rd round submission victory, using a rear naked choke for the tap out at the 2:00 mark. And in the main event, Welterweight Champion Nick Diaz(24-7, 1 NC) defeated Evangelista Santos(18-14) at 4:50 of round 2 with an armbar submission victory(Credit : Sherdog).

-WWE's 2011 Royal Rumble took place this past Sunday, January 30th, at Boston, MA's T.D. Garden. (WCW) World Heavyweight Champion Edge retained his title in the opener, pinning Dolph Ziggler after an Unprettier in 15:06. WWE Champion The Miz retained the belt, pinning Randy Orton in 23:12 after CM Punk used a GTS on Orton. Eve Torres won the Divas Championship when she pinned Layla El after a moonsault in a torturous 4:44 to win the title in a fourway also with Michelle McCool & Champion Natalya Neidhart, making Eve a 2-time Champion. In the Royal Rumble match itself - the first ever to feature more than 30 wrestlers, in this case 40 - Booker T & Kevin Nash(as Diesel) returned to WWE, Booker being eliminated by the New Nexus, Diesel by Wade Barrett. Booker was signed to a long-term deal looking to fill many roles while writing an autobiography with Andrew William Wright("From Prison To Promise" by Medallion Press, Inc.) to be released in September, while Nash will likely be working with WWE going forward. Alberto Del Rio went on to win the Rumble, last eliminating WWE Tag Team Champion Santino Marella at the 1:09:48 mark. -Despite the New York Daily News reporting on Wednesday February 2nd that Sting signed a 1-year contract with WWE, Sting is still a free agent with nothing confirmed as far as negotiations with any promotion. Kevin Nash, however, signed a 5-year Legends contract with WWE that day, while Eddie & Vickie Guerrero's daughter Shaul, who has been ring announcing in FCW after signing a developmental deal, has been renamed Raquel Diaz(Credit: WGN).

-ROH TV Champion Christopher Daniels returned as Suicide to TNA at the iMPACT! taping Monday January 31st in Orlando, FL's iMPACT! Zone. Going on to defeat Brian Kendrick, he is still under ROH contract and will be wrestling for both promotions. -The Department Of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth's Michigan state agency, the Bureau Of Commercial Services, has filed a complaint against Stephen George Daher, a licensed timekeeper from MI's Unarmed Combat Commission, alleging Daher failed to end the first round of middleweight Maiquel Falcao(26-3, 1 NC)'s bout against Gerald Harris(17-3) properly, ending the round 6 seconds early when Falcao had Harris in a rear-naked choke(Credit : ESPN).

-TapouT's former VP Of Sales Lee Lemon filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles, CA on Monday January 31st against the clothing company along with Zuffa LCC, MMA Authentics, Authentic Brands Group, MMAHoldings LLC, Daniel "Punkass" Caldwell & the estate of Charles "Mark" Lewis, alleging wrongful termination, failure to pay wages of $400,000 plus commissions, intentional infliction of emotional distress, fraudulent misrepresentation, defamation, and several more negligence claims including "defrauding investors"(Credit : Sherdog). 

-WWE filed a lawsuit in Connecticut for a jury trial against Italy's Interactive S.P.A. on Thursday February 3rd for breach of contract regarding $551,087 owed for licensing WWE programming to Sportitalia Channel & SI Live as well as $129,752.20 plus interest for the rights to the Italian language WWE website. WWE & J SPORTS Broadcasting Corporation, however, have extended their agreement to air WWE programming for 5 more years while they are also negotiating with Version regarding the WWE Network.

BUSINESS :

-New Japan's Koji Kanemoto contract was recently modified to accommodate a lighter schedule and an option to wrestle for other promotions. KUSHIDA is expected to wrestle for NJPW more often, however, while MVP is set to wrestle on New Japan's US tour this May in the Norheast(Credit : Puroresu Fan).

-Former ECW producer Steve Karel is opening the Urban Wrestling Federation, supposedly to air on PPV while also in negotiations with a national cable channel. Entertainment One Music is working with the UWF to bring in musical talent for the shows.

-On Spike TV's TNA iMPACT! on Thursday February 10th from the iMPACT! Zone in Orlando, FL, Hernandez returned to TNA, attacking Matt Morgan on Eric Bischoff's behalf in the middle of Morgan's title match against Champion Mr. Anderson. A week later on Thursday February 17th's iMPACT!, Traci Brooks also returned to TNA, aligning with her husband, X Champion Kazarian.

-On Friday February 11th at FCW's event in Gainesville, FL's MLK Center, Raquel Diaz(Shaul Guerrero) made her wrestling debut, teaming with Naomi in a losing effort to Divas Champion AJ Lee & Aksana(Credit : prowrestling.net).

-Strikeforce : Fedor Vs. Silva took place Saturday February 12th at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, NJ. Welterweight Igor Gracie(3-2, featured in Rodney Leconte's upcoming documentary The Grappling Kings) defeated John Salgado(4-5-1) via technical submission in a prelim bout, 3:04 in the 2nd round using an arm triangle. On the main card, Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem's brother Valentijn(29-25) made a successful Strikeforce debut, defeating heavyweight Ray Sefo(2-1) 1:37 in to round 1 in a World Grand Prix tournament reserve fight using a neck crank submission. Two more reserve fights followed, as Chad Griggs(10-1) beat Gianpiero Villante(7-2) by 1st round TKO in 2:49, and Shane Del Rosario(11-0) stayed undefeated against Lavar Johnson(15-4) with an armbar submission, 4:31 in to round 1. In the first round of the SF Heavyweight WGP tournament, former PRIDE star Sergei Kharitonov(18-4) quickly defeated Andrei Arlovski(15-9) in Kharitonov's SF debut with a 1st round KO in 2:49.  Continuing in the WGP 1st round, Fedor Emelianenko(31-3, 1 NC) lost to Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva(16-2) when referee Dan Miragliotta stopped the bout between rounds 2 & 3 due to damage to Fedor's right eye. -Lastly on Feb. 12th, CZW: Twelve took place at the Asylum Arena in Philadelphia, PA. -On WWE Monday Night RAW a week ago on Valentine's Day, February 14th from the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson returned to RAW for the first time since 2004 as the host for WrestleMania 27.

-Strikeforce Challengers 14 took place Friday February 18th from the Cedar Park Center near Austin, TX. Lightweight Ryan Couture(2-0) defeated Lee Higgins(2-1), submitting Higgins to a rear naked choke in 4:41 of round 3.

-On SyFy's WWE Smackdown this past Friday February 18th from San Diego, CA's Valley View Casino Center, Dolph Ziggler was award the World Heavyweight title due to Champion Edge's use of the Spear in his defense against Ziggler a week earlier. However, returning GM Teddy Long ordered an immediate title defense against former Champion Edge, which Edge won in 3:00 via pinfall following a Spear to win the World Heavyweight title for a 7th time, making him an 11-time World Champion.

-On Saturday February 19th, Colton Bigelow(son of Scott "Bam Bam") of Ocean Township, NJ, defeated James Parnell of Long Branch, NJ by 1-0 decision in the final round of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association tournamentfor for the District 22 title at 215lbs., helping his team make 2nd place overall with a score of 168 in the 11-team meet(Credit : NJ.com).

-Also on Saturday, NWA National Heavyweight Champion Phil Shatter(TNA's Gunner) lost the title to Chance Prophet in Franklinville, NJ's Franklin Skating Center for NWA Vintage due to Gunner signing with TNA. TNA has also signed Gunner's partner, Murphy(Credit : WGN).

-This past Sunday February 20th at Japan's Sendai Sun Plaza Hall, NJPW's "New Beginning" PPV took place, featuring IWGP Heavyweight Champion Hiroshi Tanahashi defeating Satoshi Kojima by pinfall following a High Fly Flow in 22:22 of the main event. Scheduled to team with the debuting MVP, a drunk NOSAWA was arrested at 2am that morning in Japan for stealing a taxi cab. Being replaced by Taichi, MVP's team went on to defeat Tomoaki Honma & Togi Makabe when MVP pinned Honma in 11:29 following a TTB. -The magnitude 9.0 earthquake struck near Japan's east coast on Friday March 11th, the largest earthquake in the country's history, causing a 7-metre tsunami that engulfed Sendai and other areas in northern Japan. Korakuen Hall was damaged, and several shows were canceled : Jewels' show in Tokyo the day of, and Shoot Legacy Oz along with NJPW's show in Wing Hat Kasukabe, set for the following day(Saturday March 12th), were canceled. AJPW's March 17th show in Kesennuma was also canceled. New Japan also canceled their next several shows - yesterday(Monday March 14th) at Tsubame City Gymnasium, Wednesday March 16th at Mito Citizen Gymnasium, and Thursday March 17th at Kumagaya City Gymnasium. Lastly, UFC middleweight Yoshirio Akiyama(13-3, 2 NC) has withdrawn from his fight against Nate Marquardt(30-10-2) on Saturday March 19th at UFC 128 in Newark, NJ's Prudential Center, to be replaced by Dan Miller(13-4, Credit : ABC  News, MMAJunkie, wrestling observer).

-Although the news broke on Sat. March 12, it was not officially announced until the press conference Mon. the 14th that Zuffa Inc. has purchased Strikeforce from Silicon Valley Sports & Entertainment & SF CEO Scott Coker's West Coast Entertainment at the end of last week. Coker will stay on as CEO, as UFC President Dana White proclaimed Strikeforce will continue to operate "business as usual" with it's staff and fighters still on board to operate independently of UFC and fulfill their business contracts with other promotions, networks & arenas(though fights will now take place under Unified Rules, changing SF fights to allow elbows on the ground). -Zoogz Rift, 57, former on-camera UWF(Universal Wrestling Federation) Vice President/booker and guitarist, died on Tuesday March 22nd due to complications from diabetes(Credit : Dangerous Minds).

RESULTS :

-Ring Of Honor's Manhattan Mayhem IV took place Saturday afternoon, March 19th, from New York City's Manhattan Center. In the main event, Eddie Edwards stunned the crowd with a surprise pinfall over World Champion Roderick Strong to claim the title, making Edwards ROH's first Triple Crown champion. In a Pure rules non-title bout with TV Champion Christopher Daniels, Davey Richards used a rollout to defeat Daniels, but moments earlier landed on the ropes after misjudging a Shooting Star Press. Richards was physically alright but disappointed with the botch. And in a non-title tag match with Champions The Kings Of Wrestling, Hernandez returned to ROH, re-teaming with Homicide in a losing effort, seeing Claudio Castagnoli pin Homicide after a European Uppercut.

-Later that evening, UFC 128 took place at Newark, NJ's Prudential Center, and saw heavyweight Mirko 'Cro-Cop' Filipovic(27-9-2, 1 NC) get knocked out by heavyweight Brendan Schaub(8-1)'s punch 3:44 in to round 3. Bantamweight Urijah Faber(25-4) was victorious in his UFC debut, getting a unanimous decision victory over Eddie Wineland(18-7-1), and in the main event, Light Heavyweight prospect Jon Jones(13-1) defeated Champion Mauricio "Shogun" Rua(19-5) via TKO, 2:37 in to round 3 to become the new champion. Earlier in the day, Jones stopped a crime in Paterson, NJ, as Jones & his coaches went to a park in the city only to hear screaming upon exiting their car. The group immediately took off after a perpetrator who allegedly smashed a windshield & stole a GPS device, leading to Jones catching up to the robber, taking him down and holding him until the police came.
Jones would go on to appear on NBC's The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, the Thursday March 24th appearance being the first time an MMA fighter has been on the show as a guest, while heavyweight Brock Lesnar appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on NBC last night(Credit : MMAJunkie).

-Also later in the evening of Sat. March 19th, Arizona State's Anthony Robles, who was born without a right leg, won the 125-lbs. NCAA wrestling tournament with a 7-1 decision over Iowa's Matt McDonough at Philadelphia, PA's Wells Fargo Center. -Sat. March 19th saw MMA middleweight James Irvin(15-9, 2 NC) lose to Mamed Khalidov(22-4-2) via an armbar submission in 0:33 of the first round of 'KSW XV: Konfrontajca's main event in Warsaw, Poland's Torwar Hall. Irvin weighed in at 200.6 lbs., 10 lbs. over the weight limit, necessitating the match to be a catchweight bout as Khalidov weighed in at 191.8, also over the 185 lbs. limit. Earlier on the card, light heavyweight Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou(11-8) defeated Champion Jan Blachowicz(12-3) for the title by TKO after Blachowicz could not continue after Round 2(Credit : Sherdog).

-Lastly on Saturday March 19th, BJ Whitmer returned to wrestling at HWA Hysteria in Norwood, OH's Donald E. Prues Center, revealed as the mystery challenger for Champion Gerome Philips, defeating Philips for the title, making Whitmer a 2-time HWA Champion.

-NJPW presented a show in Japan's Amagasaki Memorial Park Gymnasium on Sunday March 20th, featuring Yuji Nagata defeating Shinsuke Nakamura in 14:14 of the main event with a backdrop hold, winning the New Japan Cup. Also, Hirooki Goto turned heel on tag partner Hiroshi Tanahashi, leaving Tanahashi to fend for himself mid-match in their bout against Satoshi Kojima & MVP, which ended also in 14:44 by pinfall when MVP used a TTP on Tanahashi. -Titan Fighting Championship 17 aired live on HDNet this past Friday March 25th from Kansas City, KS's Memorial Hall, seeing middleweight Phil Baroni(14-13) defeat Nick Nolte(3-3) by unanimous decision. In the main event, heavyweight Bobby Lashley(6-1) beat John Ott(8-6) also by unanimous decision. Lashley was originally scheduled to face James Jack(6-2) until Jack went missing as TFC officials were unable to get in contact with him.

-Also from Friday the 25th, FCW at Florida's Miami Fair saw Tag Team Champions Titus O'Neill & Damian Sandow lose the belts to current 15 Champion Seth Rollins & Richie Steamboat. O'Neill turned face on Sandow after the match as well(Credit : ring rap, 411mania).

-UFC Fight Night 24 aired on Spike TV live this past Saturday night March 26th from Seattle, WA's KeyArena. Featherweight Chan Sung Jung(11-3) defeated Leonard Garcia(15-7-1) with the first ever Twister finish in UFC history, securing the submission victory 4:59 in to round 2 of their rematch. Unanimous decisions were awarded in the last two bouts of the night however, as welterweight Anthony Johnson(9-3) defeated Dan Hardy(23-9, 1 NC), and light heavyweight Phil Davis(9-0) kept his undefeated streak alive against Antonio Rogerio Noguiera(19-5).

-Also this past Saturday & Sunday, SHIMMER held tapings in Berwyn, IL's Eagles Club. Also returning to TNA was Christopher Daniels, appearing at the end of the iMPACT! taping on Wednesday March 16th. Appearing in the brawl aftermatch of Bully Ray, Matt Hardy & Abyss' victory over World Champion Sting, Mr. Anderson & Rob Van Dam in a steel cage(Ray pinned RVD), Daniels' appearance in TNA is a violation of his Ring Of Honor contract(he remains ROH TV Champion, Credit : wrestleview).

-Pro Wrestling Respect's Mike Sydal injured his neck on Friday March 25th at a WLW show in Spokane, WO's Spokane High School, suffering a stinger in a match against Mark Sterling, landing on his head attemping a Shooting Star Press. Taken to the emergency room after the incident, Sydal is expected to make a full recovery after taking several weeks off to recover.

LEGAL :


-Kurt Angle was arrested early Friday morning March 25th after being spotted sitting in a Dodge Durango parked in the meridian of Grand Forks, North Dakota's I-29. Police were alerted by passer-by, gave Angle a sobriety test upon arrival once they smelled alcohol on his breathe(he failed), arrested Angle, and charged him with being in control of a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Angle denied the story, claiming to have gotten a distracting text message to explain him ending up in the meridian, posted $300 cash bond, and went on to wrestle on TNA's house show at the Alerus Center(Credit : TMZ, The Charlotte Observer).

-WrestleMania 11 headliner Lawrence Taylor was sentenced to six years probation on Tuesday March 22nd after pleading guilty in January to sexual misconduct and patronizing a prostitute. A hearing on Tuesday April 12th will determine what level of sex offender will be assigned Taylor. Terms of his probation include a 1am curfew, the inability to visit social networking sites, contribution of a DNA sample, a banning from visiting sex/porn shops or strip clubs, and he must register as a sex offender with New York State(Credit : ESPN, Essence, TMZ).

-Jeff Hardy's drug case was again pushed back on Wednesday March 16th at Moore County, NC Superior Court after Assistant District Attorney Warren McSweeney asked Judge James Webb to continue the case so they can get the results from the State Bureau Of Investigation on evidence seized from Hardy's home in September 2009. -WWE & Vivendi Entertainment have extended their relationship for Vivendi to act as WWE's North American retail & rental distributor. As part of the deal, Walmart will be the exclusive retailer for WWE Studios films through 2012, giving Walmart, Sam's Club & Walmart.com exclusive rights to sell Blu-Ray & DVD versions of the films for the first 90 days of release. WWE also has a new agreement with Signiant to use their digital content delivery tool for a faster & safer exchange of video content between WWE & NBCUniversal, replacing WWE's previous tape-based delivery processes.
